Versatile Strength: This spring is excellent for AR15s of all calibers that cycle and eject on the hard side since it slows the rearward bolt velocity, ejection and recoil. For 9mm blowback ARs, this spring is perfect for many of the shorter barreled guns with barrels from 5"-7.5" in length with our RB5007 standard hydraulic 9mm buffer. For longer barrels move up to a .308 carbine spring.

An excellent choice for AR-15 carbines that cycle and eject on the harder side. Great for 5.56mm SBRs, suppressed ARs, piston guns and heavier caliber AR15s that cycle hard. In 9mm blowback ARs, stronger springs hold the 9mm bolt in battery properly and reduce bolt velocity which is important for safety, reduced recoil and service life of triggers. The spring is a critical component of the 9mm blow-back system and you need the highest quality and the proper strength for optimal performance. I bought this spring for my PCC because I was having trouble with the .308 spring I was running. I’m guessing because if the lighter loads I run and the stiffness of the .308 spring, it was causing the bolt not to lock back after the last round was fired. I switched to a standard .223 spring which allowed the bolt to stay back but the “dot bounce” was noticeably increased. I decided to try the 223 plus power spring and it works great. Obviously not as soft as the 308 but softer than the standard 223 and allows the bolt hold open function to work properly. Some of the matches I run call for 10 round max mags, so the reloads are faster if the bolt has stayed open, instead of recharging the gun. If it wasn’t for that, I would have left the 308 spring in. But the plus power is a great compromise to my issue.

Pairs perfect with the 5015hd in my pcc

Shooting 140 pf load, the red sprinco short stroked with the 5015hd runs like a well tuned sewing machine. There is 0 dot movement.

This spring did the trick!

Ok, So I originally purchased the PCC-5015HDO for my 9mm carbine. It worked fantastic, except for the fact that the bolt wouldn't hold open on the last round fired. Most likely because I run light loads as this gun is used mostly for competition. So I ordered the extra power .223 spring. Perfect!! The gun runs great now! Nice soft recoil impulse and the bolt holds open every time.

What Buffer Spring is best for my build?
- For PCC builds, we recommend using the strongest buffer spring that cycles reliably and consistently in your build. If it has a bolt catch in use, we recommend ensuring that the spring allows for reliable function of the bolt catch on an empty magazine. If the bolt doesn’t lock back on the last round, it is often due to too strong of a buffer spring for your gun and going down a step on spring power usually solves this problem. In PCC builds, there is often some trial and error on buffer spring selection. Every gun cycles somewhat uniquely even with the same build specs. So, there are typical combinations that work well, but you have to see for yourself what works best in your gun with your ammo.
- For 9mm PCC builds, use an AR10/.308 carbine buffer spring for barrels that are 8” or longer. For shorter barrels, more trial and error is often needed, but some type of .223 carbine spring is normally appropriate. Extra power .223 springs are normally best in all but the softest running systems.
- For AR15 or AR10 rifle buffer tubes, always use the AR15 rifle buffer and AR15 rifle buffer spring or AR10 rifle buffer and AR10 rifle buffer spring.
- For AR10 carbines with either the AR15 or AR10/A5 buffer tube, always use an AR10/.308 carbine buffer spring.
- For AR15 carbines the buffer spring selection is broader and will depend on the specifics of the build.
What is the difference between Sprinco Springs and JP Springs:
- Sprinco Springs use very high quality, certified Chrome Silicon Wire that is cryogenically heat treated, shot peened and moly plated. This gives these springs a very long service life. Running these springs for 10s of thousands of rounds is common. But you do get the typical AR spring twang with these.
- JP Springs use standard music wire, which is a very good spring material but it doesn’t have as long of a service life and is rated at between 5,000 and 10,000 rounds depending on the gun. But the advantage is that they are ground flat on the outer edge which makes them run much smoother and quieter in the buffer tube, so you don’t get the annoying spring noise. This is especially noticeable in suppressed guns. So one spring is for max service life and the other is for smoothest running with the least spring noise.
Does an AR-15 rifle buffer spring work for an ar-10?
- Buffer springs for AR-15 and AR-10 platforms are not interchangeable due to differences in size, strength, and cycling requirements.
- The AR-15 platform is primarily chambered in smaller calibers like .223 Remington/5.56 NATO, while the AR-10 platform is designed for larger calibers like .308 Winchester/7.62 NATO. The buffer springs for each platform are specifically engineered to handle the unique cycling characteristics and pressures of their respective calibers.
- Using an AR-15 buffer spring in an AR-10 could lead to cycling issues, reliability problems, and potential damage to your firearm. It is essential to use the correct buffer spring designed for your specific platform and caliber to ensure optimal performance and safety.
How long will an AR-15 buffer spring last?

How do I change the buffer spring on an ar-15?

Changing the buffer spring on an AR-15 is a relatively simple process. Follow these steps to replace the buffer spring:
1. Ensure the firearm is unloaded: Double-check that the AR-15 is unloaded, and there is no round in the chamber. Remove the magazine if one is present.
2. Separate the upper and lower receivers: Push the rear takedown pin and the front pivot pin on the lower receiver to detach the upper receiver from the lower receiver. Pull the pins out from one side and open the rifle. You may completely separate the upper and lower by pulling the pins out entirely.
3. Remove the buffer and buffer spring: Locate the buffer tube, which houses the buffer and buffer spring. Press down on the buffer retainer (a small pin) located near the front end of the buffer tube. This will release the buffer and buffer spring. Slowly and carefully pull the buffer and spring out of the buffer tube. Be cautious, as the buffer retainer is under spring tension and can fly out if not controlled.
4. Replace the buffer spring: Slide the old buffer spring off the buffer, and slide the new buffer spring onto the buffer. Ensure the spring is seated correctly on the buffer.
5. Reinstall the buffer and buffer spring: Push down on the buffer retainer again and slide the buffer and new buffer spring back into the buffer tube. Release the buffer retainer so it locks the buffer and spring in place.
6. Reassemble the rifle: Reattach the upper and lower receivers by aligning the pivot pinholes and takedown pinholes, and then push the pins back in to secure the two halves.
7. Function check: Perform a function check by working the charging handle, dry firing, and checking the safety selector to ensure everything is working correctly. If everything seems to be functioning properly, your buffer spring replacement is complete.
